Halu

Bridging the gap between furniture and IoT

The Concept

Smart lighting in 2015 was dominated by “tech-first” bulbs that required hiding behind lampshades. Halu was designed to be an object of desire itself—a lamp that looked beautiful even when turned off.

Technical Execution

The challenge was diffusing the point-source LEDs into a soft, uniform glow without losing brightness.

  • Diffuser: We engineered a custom optical methacrylate cone with variable thickness to ensure even light distribution from base to tip.
  • Interaction: Unlike competitors requiring a bridge, Halu connected directly to the router. The app interface (which I also designed) used a “color wheel” metaphor that mirrored the physical circular base of the lamp.

Manufacturing

The base utilizes a “double-injection” mold to combine a rigid structural core with a soft-touch exterior, eliminating the need for painting and reducing environmental impact.
